Centric General Contractors Addresses all Elements for Restoring San Francisco’s Oldest Building, the Presidio Officers’ Club
SAN FRANCISCO, January 01, 2012 – Centric General Contractors, a native Bay Area builder, is addressing all critical elements in the restoration of San Francisco’s oldest and most cherished building. The Presidio’s former Officers’ Club is undergoing a complete rehabilitation including the restoration of the entire historic space with the addition of a new exhibit space and event venues, seismic upgrades and vast improvements in accessibility for people with disabilities. The restoration is scheduled to be complete early next year; LEED gold certification is anticipated from the U.S. Green Building Council.
Centric General Contractors is one of the many qualified firms preserving the historic structures throughout the Presidio. The firm researched and continues to study the series of events that have shaped the Officers’ Club unique story. These ongoing efforts ensure the structure’s history will not be damaged during construction. The president of Centric General Contractors, Kevin Russell and his handpicked team of experts are dedicated to ensuring the Presidio’s history will be shared by many generations to come, “We are committed to preserving our city’s rich history. Our team has an intimate knowledge of the Presidio’s rich historic architecture and a clear understanding of the Officers’ Club’s distinct layers of craftsmanship. Each of the multiple layers reveals different materials added over the centuries. We combine our extensive historical knowledge with an ability to apply state-of-the-art architectural conservation technologies to ensure the intentions of this restoration are precisely met.”
Preservation of the Officers’ Club’s historic fabric is essential to restore the building’s inherent beauty and has proven to be cost-effective. Conservation of the adobe brick structures, historic millwork and wood windows are the active efforts taking place to maintain the structure’s unique character. With the winter season already upon San Francisco; Centric constructed a tent above the Adobe portions of the Officers’ Club to preserve the historic site and to ensure the schedule remains on track. With renovations including additions, Centric makes sure the new construction efforts are indistinguishable from the historic structures. In addition, the Centric team is applying techniques to incorporate modern systems into historic structures in a way that improves their structural and functional integrity while maintaining their historic integrity.
The entire Officers’ Club team anticipates LEED gold certification. Russell States; “The most effective and efficient way to creating a green building is to improve the existing structure. With the Officer’s Club being many hundreds of years old, this project presents unique preservation and energy efficiency challenges”. The entire Centric team is poised to meet these challenges and is greatly encouraged by their recent achievement of being awarded the Preservation Design award from the California Preservation Foundation (CPF). When completed, The Presidio’s Officers’ Club will be an exciting new chapter in the future of San Francisco’s historic past.
